My name is Alan Miramontes Flores. I am a rising sophomore who is majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in Spanish. I am also very involved in Maryville College campus as an MC Ambassador, ALANA Scholar, and the treasurer of SGA. This summer I spent my time working at my family’s restaurant as a waiter, and as an ESL volunteer at Centro Hispano of East Tennessee, which is a nonprofit that helps this region’s Hispanic community. Next year I hope to start looking for unique STEM internship opportunities where I can continue to develop my skills. I am really excited to be one of this year’s Scots Science Scholars peer mentors. I am really looking forward to meeting all of the new Scots Science scholars and I hope to encourage this year’s students to continue pursuing a career in a STEM field, As an S3 Scholar, I know that the transition to being a college student can very difficult. I aspire to pursue each student’s transition and make them feel welcomed at Maryville College and in the Scots Science Scholars summer program.
